The MCAT Verbal Reasoning and Writing sections are often the most difficult sections for students who have focused on a science-based undergraduate curriculum.
Test Prep New York is the only company that offers a comprehensive course focused on the MCAT Verbal Reasoning section, customized to the needs of the clients. Unlike some companies that take a one-size-fits-all, template-based approach, we tailor the material and the presentation to ensure that the students get the most out of our course.
The course was created by one of the world's linguistic experts who has 7 years’ experience in test preparation tutoring. Currently we are contracted by a major university to teach this ground-breaking course.
TPNY helps students master the difficult and confusing material of the MCAT Verbal Reasoning section, from understanding complex sentences and paragraphs to navigating the twists and turns of a difficult-to-follow argument.
We've analyzed the factors that make MCAT questions so challenging and we teach our students the skills they need to handle them:
- Grappling with questions that require you to reason two or three
steps beyond what was stated in the text
- Dealing with ambiguity and “fuzzy” reasoning
- Combining analytical thinking and intuition
- Recognizing important cluesto tone and attitude
- Reading between the lines to grasp the author’s purpose
Unlike other courses, we also tackle all the factors that make the texts themselves so challenging: difficult vocabulary, less-common or “literary” grammar, complex sentences, paragraphs that are jam packed with ideas, and texts that seem to make huge leaps and leave the reader behind. We teach our students to find their way through dense, confusing passages. We show them how to deal with unfamiliar concepts and alien terminology, and to cope with difficult readings in subject areas they’ve never read about or even heard of before, so that they can attack the questions effectively.
The course is taught in person and online. For more information on the upcoming online course, click here.
